Supplementary examinations
Supplementary examination dates and procedures
- Registration: May 8 to May 21 (12.00 noon, CEST) 2026, online
- German (written exam): June 8, 2.15 p.m.
- Mathematics (written exam): June 9, 2.15 p.m.
- English (written exam): June 10, 2.15 p.m.
- Oral exams (all subjects): June 22 to June 26, 2026
- Issue of certificates: At the earliest one day after the oral exam: June 24 to June 26 and June 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in front of the office (or afterwards during opening hours in the office). Please note that you have to show your photo ID. Please mind the opening hours in July and August.
- Registration: August 7 to August 20 (12.00 noon, CEST) 2026, online
- German (written exam): September 7, 2.15 p.m.
- English (written exam): September 8, 9.30 a.m.
- Mathematics (written exam): September 9, 9.30 a.m.
- Oral exams (all subjects): September 21 to September 24, 2026
- Issue of certificates: September 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the office (or afterwards during opening hours in the office). Please note that you have to show your photo ID.
Registration for supplementary examinations
A registration for supplementary examinations is not possible at the moment. The instructions for an online registration for supplementary examinations can be found here at the beginning of the next registration period (German only).
Supplementary examinations - general information
- There are 3 dates for supplementary examinations per semester:
- Winter semester: September, October/November, January
- Summer semester: March, April/May, June
- Please mind the application deadline!
- Examination fees:
- 66 euros: Examination fee for German, English, Mathematics each.
- 46 euros: Examination fee for History, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry each.
- For the registration you need a valid admission letter from a scientific Viennese university that states the supplementary examination you want to register for.
- It is also possible to register for supplementary examinations if you are not currently enrolled in a course within the Preparation Programme.
- The supplementary examinations are taken in the presence of a board of examiners (Prüfungssenat) at the VWU.
- The board of examiners consists of three members: the examiner, another lecturer of the VWU and a representative of the university, who chairs the board.
- For the oral examination in German, English and mathematics passing the written examination is required.
- A deregistration from the exam is only possible up to one week before the exam date. In the case of oral exams you can cancel your registration up to one week before the first day of the oral exams.
Grades: 1 (very good), 2 (good), 3 (satisfactory), 4 (sufficient), 5 (not sufficient). Grade 5 means “negative”, i.e. fail. Candidates may take a supplementary exam up to five times.
