Course Registration for continuing students within the University Preparation Programme in the summer semester 2025

• If you attended an FF1 course at the VWU in the winter semester 2024/2025, were registered within the University Preparation Programme for a maximum of three semesters and have not yet passed all supplementary examinations ("Ergänzungsprüfungen") stated in your admission letter(s), you will receive an e-mail from the VWU office (vwu@vwu.at) on January 13^th, 2025 with registration and payment information. The course fee is € 612. Please also check your spam folder for this e-mail! Register via e-mail for your course at the VWU in the summer semester 2025 between January 16^th and January 24^th. After January 24^th we cannot guarantee any course places! (Exception: Students who are registered for their last supplementary examination in January can register by e-mail to vwu@vwu.at until January 31^st.)
• If you were enrolled in an advanced course (FG, WF, or FF2) in the winter semester 2024/2025, have not yet been registered within the University Preparation Programme for a total of four semesters, and would like to register for a course at the VWU in the summer semester 2025, e-mail your request to vwu@vwu.at with a relevant subject, text and a copy of your student record sheet (“Studienblatt”) for the winter semester 2024/2025 by January 20^th. The VWU office will then send you detailed instructions, including your personal payment reference. Register via e-mail for your couse at the VWU in the summer semester 2025 between January 16^th and January 24^th. After January 24^th we cannot guarantee any course places! (Exception: Students who are registered for their last supplementary examination in January can register by e-mail to vwu@vwu.at until January 31^st.)
• If you did not attend a course in the winter semester 2024/2025 and therefore cannot provide a student record sheet (“Studienblatt”), please contact your university’s admissions office for a period of study confirmation (“Studienzeitbestätigung”).

After registering for the University Preparation Programme (VWU) you will automatically be enrolled for a continuation of your studies at the university where you completed your admission in the first semester. If you changed your university since then you will be enrolled for a continuation of your studies at the last university where you enrolled as a non-degree programme student (“außerordentliche/r Student/in”). If you have admission letters from different universities and have passed all the supplementary examination(s) needed for one university, you must enroll at the other university as a first-semester student. This does not happen automatically! The same applies if you want to change your univeristy in the summer semester 2025. The earliest you can pay the student union fee (“ÖH Beitrag”) is a week after completing your registration within the University Preparation Programme (VWU) (for information see the website of your university). You must pay this fee by the start of the course. Failure to pay results in incomplete admission, meaning you cannot attend courses within the University Preparation Programme and will likely be fully deregistered. Please also note that attending a course within the University Preparation Programme is limited to four semesters. A fifth semester will only be granted in exceptional cases by the head of the VWU (more information on this subject matter is available below).

• If you are attending an AN course at die Berater® or at the Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien in the winter semester 2024/2025, have been registered within the University Preparation Programme for a maximum of three semesters and have not yet passed all supplementary examinations ("Ergänzungsprüfungen") stated in your admission letter(s), register for your course in the summer semester 2025 at die Berater® between December 2^nd and December 19^th or at the Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien between between December 4^th and December 18^th. After December 18^th (Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien) or December 19^th  (die Berater®) a course place cannot be guaranteed! The course fee at die Berater® or at the Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien will be € 1,535 in the summer semester 2025 (plus a fee for course materials). If you did not attend a course at Berater® or at the Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien in the winter semester 2024/2025 but in a previous semester, you must take a placement test at die Berater® (https://germanforstudents.com/en) or the Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien (https://sprachenzentrum.univie.ac.at/en/german-courses/german-courses-for-vwu) to prove your German ist still at an advanced level.

• If you are attending an AV course at die Berater® or at the Language Centre of the University of Vienna in the winter semester 2024/25, passed the FG or WF level in the test for attending an advanced course (“Aufstiegsprüfung“) in the winter semester 2024/2025 and have been enrolled for less than four semesters in total within the University Preparation Programme and have not yet passed all supplementary examinations ("Ergänzungsprüfungen") stated in your admission letter(s), the VWU will invite you to an onSET transfer placement test (“Übertritts-Einstufungstest“) on January 28^th (there is no alternative date!). Students who achieve the best results will be offered a combined course consisting of subject-specific courses and a German course at the VWU in the summer semester of 2025 (course fee € 612). Students who do not achieve one of the top results can register with die Berater® or the Language Centre of the University of Vienna (course fee € 1535 plus a fee for course materials) for a German course in the summer semester of 2025 (the course level achieved in the test for attending an advanced course (“Aufstiegsprüfung“) counts) by January 31^st at the latest. If you have been registered within the University Preparation Programme for a maximum of three semesters and have not yet passed the supplementary examination ("Ergänzungsprüfung") in German, you can register online for your course as a continuing student in the summer semester 2025 between December 2^nd and December 19^th with die Berater® or between December 4^th and December 18^th with the Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien. The course fee is € 1535 (plus a fee for study materials). After December 18^th and December 19^th, respectively, a course place cannot be guaranteed! A mandatory pre-registration is required before registering with die Berater® or Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien. After registering with die Berater® or the Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien you will automatically be enrolled for a continuation of your studies at the university where you completed your admission in the first semester. If you changed your university since then, you will be enrolled for a continuation of your studies at the last university where you enrolled as a non-degree programme student (“außerordentliche/r Student/in”). If you want to change your univeristy in the summer semester 2025, you have to enrol as a first-semester student at the new university. This does not happen automatically! The earliest you can pay the student union fee (“ÖH Beitrag”) is a week after completing your registration with die Berater® or the Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien (for further information see the website of your university). This fee must be paid by the start of the course. Failure to pay results in incomplete admission, meaning that you are not a student and cannot attend courses within the University Preparation Programme and will likely be fully deregistered (in this case a refund of your course fee is also not possible)! Please also note that attending a course within the University Preparation Programme is limited to four semesters. A fifth semester will only be granted in exceptional cases by the head of the VWU (more information on this subject matter is available below).

Application period for the summer semester 2025: January 13^th to January 24^th, 2025 at the VWU office (no appointments required). In case of any questions or uncertainties please contact us via e-mail (vwu@vwu.at) before submitting your application.

You have to apply in person at the VWU office. You will require the following documents in hardcopy:

• Confirmation of all courses attended at the cooperation partner (containing your course level and result)
• Student ID (and passport, if necessary)
• Admission letter from your university
• Student record sheet (“Studienblatt”) for the winter semester 2024/2025 (or a current confirmation of the study period (“Studienzeitbestätigung”), if you did not attend a course in the winter semester 2024/2025)
• Completed form (available in front of the office)
• Provide a confirmation of the reasons why you were unable to complete the VWU.
  • Valid reasons include those that prevented you from attending the University Preparation Programme for an extended period, such as illness, visa issues, pregnancy, etc.
  • nvalid reasons include work commitments, having not yet passed all your supplementary examinations, or changing your field of studies.
• Only in case of applying for a 6^th semester: an additional written request (a letter addressed to the VWU Commission explaining why you need a 6^th semester and have not yet completed the University Preparation Programme) is required.
